Age of Aquarius

I didn't think I had a usual spot or a usual routine, I try to mix it up every once in a while. So I go to different places around campus to think and write, but I do love Laurence Hall, the Hearth and AAA Library. The point that I am trying to make about all this is I usually buy a cup of coffee from the coffee shop in the Hearth after a night of insomnia added to 8:30AM class. So today I get up to the counter and before I can say "12 ounce nonfat white mocha please" the girl at the counter says it for me, not in a patronizing way, but in a I'm good at my job and I recognize you from last time you were here sort of way. All she asks me is if I want my mocha with whipped cream today.

This little exchange absolutely blew my mind because today was the first time I actually payed attention to who she was. If yesterday you would have asked me to identify any sort of physical feature of the girls working in that coffee shop I couldn't tell you one. I would probably even have said that it was a different girl taking my order every time. I might not have even been able to discern that it was a woman, I might have said it was a guy who wears a baseball hat. Who knows?!? Anyway I just found that incredible that I could be so blind to who she was and she could instantly recognize me. I guess I have to pay better attention.
